Since the mid 1970’s I have expressed myself primarily through sculpture. However, beginning in 2002 I felt a need to explore and try something new. That winter I devoted myself entirely to mixed media painting on wood. I felt a new found freedom. I soon realized that this medium enabled me to more clearly understand and express what I needed to say. In 2001 I cared for my mother who was dying of cancer. The experience affected me profoundly. These paintings are an expression of that experience. They are personal metaphors, stories about my inquiry into death.
